Idol’s debut album out before Hari Raya

MALAYSIAN IDOL 2 : DANIEL LEE CHEE HUN

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of new Malaysian Idol Daniel Lee, 23, can look forward to his debut album under recording label Sony BMG by the end of next month.

The pop album will feature 10 songs in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and English.
“We’re planning to release the album before Hari Raya so that his fans can enjoy listening to it as the festival approaches,” said Sony BMG managing director Adrian Lim at a media gathering here on Wednesday.

Lim said Mimpi (in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin) written by Innuendo’s Pot Amir, and Rick Price’s Heaven Knows would be among the songs in the album.

“Heaven Knows is his lucky song and it will be essential to have it in his debut album. As for Mimpi, Daniel will be recording in dual languages to cater to a larger audience.”

Lim said Sony BMG is finalising the details.

However, Daniel, a music undergraduate from Universiti Sains Malaysia, will not be playing any instrument in his debut album, and neither will he be composing any song.

The Amazing Race is Back: Family Edition

It wasn't as easy as you might have thought. The Amazing Race 8 or better known as the Amazing Race: Family Edition kicked off with a premiere Worldwide on 27th September 2005 & 28th September 2005 (depending on the country you are living in).

Hosted by Jeff Probst, the million dollar Race around the world will begin with a brand new season filled with adrenaline-pumping action!.

For the first time, this Emmy Award-winning reality adventure series will pit 10 teams of families against one another in a race around the world for a $1 million prize. Teams who are farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.

Familes taking part in this globetrooting adventure include a father and sons-in-law team, a family coming to terms with losing a husband and a father to a highway accident, a close-knit sibling team of 3 brothers and a fiesty sister, a bickering New York family amongst others!

The Result

With 68% of the votes, Daniel’s victory was a resounding one.

Season 2 has been a success to 8TV. There was a 20% increase in votes, from last year’s one million to this year’s 1.6 million with Daniel taking home 1.2 million of the votes.

The concert, held at Genting Arena of Stars, was a success as well. When Daniel was announced as the next Malaysian Idol, the crowd, comprising mostly of Daniel’s supporters, burst into jubilant screams. But at the press conference after, the response was mixed.

The judges, 8TV CEO, Ahmad Izham Omar, and the Idols themselves were often called upon to explain why Nita, the more powerful vocalist, lost to Daniel. Paul said, “We’re here to make careers for these contestants. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s the life and blood of the industry. In fact Elton John once said ‘If 13-year-old girls aren’t buying your CDs, you’re history’”. Roslan added, “Everyone is good and talented. This year is no different just different type of talents. We’ll see after this. Does 1.2 million votes translate into sales? I have confidence because Daniel is talented.”

A caller asked Daniel, who wins a SonyBMG contract as well, if he has the confidence to tackle a competition like ‘World Idol’. “People voted me for my talent so I will try my best,” Daniel replied. “I will try to be more powerful. I never had the confidence before until I started singing three years ago. I can do more if I make it to World or Asean Idol.” And on whether Asean Idol will happen or not, Izham said, “We’re still in discussion. There are a lot of egos to pander to.”

About MI2 in general, Roslan said, “We can’t keep comparing MI1 with MI2 and each subsequent MI editions. Each talent is unique,” Paul added, “I thought we got good talent that fell through. But the season was passionate, intense and unpredictable.”

Nita and Daniel agreed on the show being unpredictable. “We started preparing to be eliminated anytime. As for predicting which one of us will win, I don’t care about the result because I think both of us are winners,” Daniel, whose idol is Jay Chou, commented.

On which of the judges’ comments affected the Idols most, Nita said, “I take their comments as a challenge. But of all the judges, I’m scared to look at Roslan most!” “Three of them sometimes break my heart,” Daniel admitted. “Roslan usually says if he likes something or doesn’t. Jee gives me confidence and Paul is very long-winded. I take the comments and try to improve from them.”

So now that Daniel has been crowned Malaysian Idol, what did he think was his responsibility as one? “I think it’s to be a role model for the kids, try my best and take things positively.”

Well said, Daniel! The rest of the country will be very interested in following Daniel’s career.

The Top 9…

The other finalists have been keeping busy too. Ash and Faizull, the rockers and best friends of the show, has decided to produce a single together featuring English and Malay rock songs. The single will comprise two or three songs, with Ash singing the English rock tracks and Faizull doing the Malay numbers.

It is well known that Ash had been in the midst of recording his solo effort, but this single will be out before his album is released.

3rd placed Idol, Farah, has been busy as well. So far, Tan Sri Lim Kok Weng has gone public in his announcement that he will sponsor his ex-student’s studies as well as album. Farah has also received offers to advertise for some well-known brands.

A PR agent who offered to represent him has approached Azam while Trish has received an offer from an independent recording label. All have been kept busy singing at functions. Those keen to catch up with Atilia can always visit the Selangor Club where she sings three times a week. All the Idols do not have any immediate plans as they still have gigs under 8 Unit to fulfill.

It's Like A Fairy Tale Idols

AND THE IDOL IS.....DANIEL

From Kuching, Sarawak to Penang to Johor Bahru & lastly in Kuala Lumpur. These are the venues for the Malaysian Idol Audition. Tens & thousands thronging to this different venues for audition & only 11 Finalists made it to the Top 11 (Spectacular).

At last, only 2 made it to the Grand Finale in Genting Arena of Stars on the 23rd September 2005 witnessing Daniel Lee, a tiny guy from the outskirt of the town, Changlun in Kedah & Norhanita Hamzah from the Metropolitan City of Kuala Lumpur. Both of them auditioned in Penang.

All of us were hoping that both can stay as the top singer in the Malaysian Idol but there must be a winner in every competition though both of them were good in their own way. There were many different dicisions before I decided to go and watch the Malaysian Idol Grand Finale in Genting Arena of Stars. At first it clasehes with my cousins birthday party, making me to call off my 2 free tickets & a complimentary room given to me free from Genting Highlands (my dad's friends work in Genting). Then, on 17th September 2005, in Sunway Pyramid, I won two tickets from the 8TV & Malaysian Idol Roadshow. It is there that I decided to go. Then on Wednesday noon, I won 4 tickets via Hitz.FM making it 6 tickets & later my dad told me that Nita's boyfriend's friend is my dad's client. So, this entitle me to the family ticket which elevates my seating to the VIP. Altogether 4 Family Ticket & 6 Normal tickets.

The Finale performance saw criticism (not so much) and praises from the 3 judges. It was a great show to all of us as this is the last performance. The 11 Finalist gave a very good opening & closing show.

The very next day, it was the Results Show. The event of the day kicked off with the Judges-meet-Fans session in First World Square noon. Here it is time for people who wants to WIN VIP PASSES that will elevate their normal ticket status to the VIP SEAT & SPECIAL VIP PASS TO ATTEND THE MALAYSIAN IDOL POST PARTY IN GENTING HOTEL BALLROOM.

In this party, I get to chat with so many different people, from the 3 Judges: Roslan Aziz (Abang Roslan), Fauziah Latiff (Kak Jie) & Paul Moss (Uncle Paul), the 8TV & TV3 Personalities, 8TV Quickie Hosts (Adam & Marion and Rina Omar & Phat Fabes), the VIP Passes Winner (except me lah cuz I got connection in 8TV. Actually my friend, Aidan Aquinas Chew, the Nescafe Kickstart Winner 2004 obtain it for me) and best of all I get to take pics and mingle around with the 23 FINALISTS OF THE MALAYSIAN IDOL (12 FINALISTS FROM 2004 & 11 FINALISTS FROM 2005). It was a rocking HOT Party where we are served Buffet Dinner (or should I say supper), FREE FLOW of BEER...Disco Dancing with the Idols & my 8 Team Cruisers from 8TV (they are my friends).

Starbucks vs. Coffee House

It starts like a fairy tale. Once, there was a girl. She was staying in New York for some time, which she considered a great privilege . One day it was raining cats and dogs, so the girl was looking for a shelter. It took her a long time to find one, but then she saw the sign "Starbucks".

The myth of the coffee house is very typical of Vienna - in this town you associate coffee houses with coziness, people reading newspapers and waiters who look like remnants of the time when Austria was still a monarchy. If you go to one of the many coffee houses in Vienna, you truly feel as if you have stepped back in time: You are surrounded by red plush, very high windows and breathtaking chandeliers. You can spend hours at this place, reading different types of newspapers and relishing one of nearly 20 different types of coffee. You may order "Gebaeck" (which means pastry) - for example the Wiener Kipferl (a Viennese version of the French croissant), the "Kaisersemmerl" (emperor roll) or even the Wiener Sachertorte (a kind of chocolate cake usually served with whipped cream) - the recipe is, like that of Coca-Cola, a well-kept national secret. Anyway, tasting these specialities, you feel like in heaven.
So far the myth. Do these traditions still exist? Is it still possible to meet a waiter who politely opens the door for you and casts a spell on women's hearts by kissing their hands? Of course waiters in tailcoats still exist, but only for the countless tourists. Starbucks is in many ways different from the typical Viennese coffee house, but this is not always negative. At Starbucks in New York you can find people from all classes, a well-paid manager as well as a poor homeless woman. The clientele is nearly the same in Vienna (apart from the homeless woman - you won't find her in an Austrian coffee house). There is one question I always ask myself: Why does the waiter treat the old man much better than me and my colleagues from university? Do we look like bilkers? Well, Maybe so, because the old man is served immediately, while we only get a very disparaging glance from the waiter. You can see it in his expression that he would rather be at home, sitting in front of the TV and drinking beer than serving people.

Another sacrilege comes to mind: I remember sitting next to a man at Starbucks who was having a very loud conversation with his girlfriend. In Viennese coffee houses it is considered impolite to speak in a loud voice. If a group of people have some fun and burst out laughing, it could very well happen that some people look at you indignantly, others may shake their heads and it might also happen that the waiter rather rudely admonishes you or even asks you to leave. Loud laughter apparently disturbs the holy silence reigning in the Viennese Coffee house. The relaxed atmosphere, the coziness which is often mentioned in connection with Viennese coffee houses, has given way to hurry and everyday stress. Today people rarely take the time to go to a coffee house. If they go, the coffee and the cake has to be served within 3 minutes, otherwise something else comes in between - the typically Viennese Grant (grief, anger). And so they are assembled - the angry waiter and the angry customer, feeling aggrieved, hurt and disappointed.

If you take a close look at the reason why people go to coffee houses, you can find another typical trait of Viennese people. Guests are not invited to one's own apartment, but taken to the coffee house. That's the only way to avoid guests getting an insight into one's private life and to prevent them from criticizing and gossiping about one's pictures, furniture, etc. People don't like showing the things they have obtained through hard work. That's the way the Viennese seem to think.

The phenomenon of "sitting in a coffee house and reading a newspaper for hours", isn't entirely accurate either. The paying customer is disturbed every 10 minutes by a rather impolite "Would you like another coffee" or "another Sachertorte for you?" while reading the newspaper. And if we are honest, our coffee houses are slowly becoming "Americanized". Beautiful old coffee houses very often have to give way to new stand-up coffee places.

So I am sitting in rainy New York and ruminatimg on the good old coffee houses in Vienna. And while the rain is beating down on the windows of Starbucks and all the people outside are running by under their umbrellas, I say to myself: "You can criticise the myth of the Viennese coffee houses, but we all love to go there. Perhaps it's because of the strange atmosphere you find there". I take the first sip from my coffee and think:

"Besides, our coffee is much better" - but this could of course be plain patriotism, another typical characteristic of a typical Austrian. I say goodbye and go outside into the rain. A paper cup with tasteless odd coffee stays behind.

THE LEGEND OF COFFEE
There are many stories about the creation of the Viennese coffee house, in which historical material is mixed with legend. Georg Franz Kolschitzky plays an important role: a long time ago he was mentioned as the first the person who opened a coffee house in Vienna. He lived in Vienna in 1683, the time of the Turkish siege. It is reported that he and his servant could escape through the siege to hand letters from the prisoners over to the Duke of Lothringen. The duke promised to set the prisoners free by sending 70.000 soldiers to their aud, and that is how the prisoners returned to Vienna. As a reward for his courage, Kolschitzky was given some of the bags of coffee beans found in the Turkish camp. The first coffee house was founded with these bags of coffee beans - so the story goes. But in reality, in 1668 merchants were already trading coffee, so it must have been introduced to Vienna 15 years before the siege by the Turks'. The first owner of a coffee house is said to have been of Greek origin.

The importance of the coffee houses in the 17th and the 18th century:

The first coffee houses were founded in the 17th century. Their development went along with another innovation - at the beginning of the 18th century the first periodical newspapers were created (for example the "Posttaegliche Mercurius", "Corriere Ordinario", "Wienerische Diarium" - the last one was renamed into "Wiener Zeitung" and is today the oldest newspaper in the world). These newspapers appeared twice a week, one could either have a subscription or read it in a coffee house. Reading the newspapers was not allowed on Sundays, so that coffee houses were closed. From that moment on, the coffee house has been a place for the privileged. It was the only place where people onefreedom, the "freedom of the coffee houses". It was the only place where you could even criticize the rule of the Austrian emperor. One could find uncensored, so called "Wrong Newspapers".. In the coffee house "Kramer" on the first floor one could meet ordinary people, while in the cellar, in the "CAVE" people were allowed to discuss forbidden political topics. The first literary coffee houses were called into being in a time of censorship when people were controlled everywhere in Austria. The coffee houses were the only places where people could enjoy limited freedom of speech, especially where politics were concerned.

Small coffee house guide

CAFE GRIENSTEIDL

opened in 1847, meeting point of literary men such as Hermann Bar, Arthur Schnitzler, Karl Krauss, Hugo von Hofmannsthal or composers such as Hugo Wolf or Arnold Schoenberg; birth place of Viennese literature. People could live out their notions of decadence; pulled down in 1897; reopened in 1990, the old atmosphere has been replaced by a modernised version.

CAFE CENTRAL

After the closing down of Griensteidl the favourite haunt of artists (Loos, Friedel, Alfred Polgar, Karl Kraus, Altenberger); place for philosophic and literary discussion, now pretty different - high costs for renovation, but the arched room where many artists had "their tables" isn't accessible to the public. nowadays it is frequented by tourists, bank employees, shop assistants, ...

BRAEUNERHOF

Hidden between old antique shops, it reminds one of the 17/18th centuries, the same furniture, a little bit dusty and antiquated walls, the waiters are still relics of the past centuries, there are a lot of newspapers, including foreign ones (for example The Herald Tribune, The Guardian, The Times, ...)

HAWELKA

In the early 1950ies, meeting point of many intellectual painters, HC Artmann, Konrad Bayer,... all spent their nights at Hawelka, the furniture is still very old, the plush is scabby, posters on the walls.

LANDTMANN

Expensive, renovated in 1980, a typical "Ringstrassencafe", very artistic wood panelling, guests have their own niche, very high backrests, small adjoining rooms where press conferences are held, regular customers were: Julius Raab, Paul Hoerbiger, Oskar Werner, Max Reinhardt, Oskar Kokoschka, ...

FRAUENHUBER

The oldest coffee house, Mozart and Beethoven gave concerts here, very quiet place with carpets on the floor, it's like a living room with glass cupboards for the china, and of course all the furniture is covered with plush...

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT MALAYSIAN IDOL ?

Farah had a huge fanbase in the studio but apparently, not enough at home where the majority of voters are.

The first one to be announced safe was Daniel. That result was unexpected, given his huge fanbase. But it was still disappointing to Roslan and Jee, who both predicted the two girls to make it to the finals. Only Paul had said that Daniel had too many voters backing him up.

Between Nita and Farah, Nita was more popular and won that round. So it was goodbye to the girl-next-door of the competition.

Farah was upset but she said she had expected it. Her target was only to make it to the top 3 and getting into the finals was always just a bonus so she claimed to be satisfied with the results. She admitted that a lung infection the past three weeks may have dampened her performance and affected the votes coming in for her. With no signs of the infection going, Farah said that perhaps it was better than she lasted only this long.

For now, she hope to be able to sing for a living and perhaps record an album, which had been the dream she was chasing for the past five years. If she records an album, it will be, “pop but not bubblegum pop!” the girl clarified. She had been writing her own songs for a while now and has about 10 songs already.

“When I stood next to Farah, I was ready to go,” Nita said. She felt Farah performed much better that night than her. Daniel also insisted that if based purely on performance, he wouldn’t last this long. The journey so far was to him like “a dream which we haven’t woke up from” while Farah said the experience had been “surreal”.

On the suggestion that he was only floating because of teenage girl voters, Daniel said that it may be true but that was the name of the game. He only aspires to try his best as he lacks the experience that Nita has and the single released that Farah can boast about.

On making it to the top 2 positions, Nita and Daniel said they did not feel any added pressure as they were already under tremendous pressure since the theatre round.

Daniel said he in fact had a breakdown during Theatre Eliminations. Before joining, he naively thought it was going to be easy clinching the title but in the theatre, Daniel realized how much stiff competition he was up against.

To participate in Malaysian Idol, Daniel had taken the whole semester off. But if he succeeds in taking the crown next week, he says he will put his studies in Music on hold. “I know it’s not a good impression for the public but Malaysian Idol is my dream, even before I entered university. I just sent in my application without thinking much of it so I was surprised to get a chance to study. But if I win, I will pursue a career in this industry because study is something I can always apply to do again. So I must grab this chance,” he said.

“I used to think my English is good,” Daniel added. “But now I know it’s not. So if produce album, it will be a mixed-languages album.”

On preparations for the finals, Nita and Daniel both agreed that it was practise, practise, practise.

For now, they – like everyone else – are counting down to the Grand Finals in Genting Arena of Stars. Don’t forget to catch it live on 8TV and TV3 on Fiday 23rd September 9pm and Saturday 24th September 9pm.

Albert Einstein the genius and lover revealed

LONDON (Reuters) - Albert Einstein was the outstanding genius of the 20th century, but he was also an ordinary man who had many affairs during his two marriages.

This other side of the German-born scientist who gave the world its most famous equation, E=MC2, and who was declared the man of the century by Time Magazine, is explained in a new exhibition to mark Einstein Year.

Revered by leading scientists and the ordinary public alike for his intellectual powers and sharp wit, and loved by children across the world for his gently avuncular air and unruly mop of white hair, Einstein was also a keen ladies' man.

"He was a passionate and very complex man, fascinatingly full of contradictions," said Hanoch Gutfreund, Einstein specialist at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem which helped mount the show at the Jewish Museum in London's Camden Town.

"He loved both of his wives but he went actively seeking the affairs, and women also sought him out," he told Reuters at a preview of the exhibition on Wednesday.

And while he cherished the mountains of letters he got from children during his years at Princeton University in the United States where he fled in 1933 aged 54, he had little contact with his own three children by his first wife Mileva Maric.

There is no evidence he ever saw his daughter Lieserl who was born in Hungary in 1902 before the couple married and while Einstein was working as a technical expert at the Swiss Patent Office in Bern.

Indeed her existence was not even known until relatively recently -- discovered in love letters from Einstein to Maric before they married in 1903 -- and all trace of her disappears after that year.

His marriage to Maric -- an intellectual foil for Einstein -- was against the wishes of his domineering mother as she was Serbian and not Jewish.

The marriage produced two sons -- Hans Albert, born in 1904, and Eduard, born in 1910. But as the marriage crumbled, she took the boys away with her.

"It was a very passionate love affair at the outset. But it soured quite quickly and their divorce was very bitter," Gutfreund said.

Well before the marriage ended, Einstein had several affairs and had begun a relationship with his cousin Elsa who he promptly married after divorcing Maric in 1919 -- the year his theory of relativity was proved and he shot to stardom.

Although Elsa was no match for Einstein intellectually she did provide him with a comfortable home and there is no doubt that he loved her, Gutfreund said.

But that didn't stop him carrying on a series of discreet affairs before she died in 1936.

Maric died in 1948, while Eduard -- a schizophrenic -- died in a sanatorium in 1965 and Hans Albert died in 1973.

Einstein died aged 76 at Princeton in April 1955, a cultural icon to the world but still an enigma of towering intellect with a turbulent personal life who had spent much of his time in solitude.

RAPIST GET ALERT !!!!! I TRULU SUPPORT THIS ANTI-RAPE CONDOM...GIRLS USE IT

KLEINMOND, South Africa (Reuters) - A South African inventor unveiled a new anti-rape female condom that hooks onto an attacker's penis and aims to cut one of the highest rates of sexual assault in the world.

"Nothing has ever been done to help a woman so that she does not get raped and I thought it was high time," Sonette Ehlers, 57, said of the "rapex," a device worn like a tampon that has sparked controversy in a country used to daily reports of violent crime.

Police statistics show more than 50,000 rapes are reported every year, while experts say the real figure could be four times that as they say most rapes of acquaintances or children are never reported.

Ehlers said the "rapex" hooks onto the rapist's skin, allowing the victim time to escape and helping to identify perpetrators.

"He will obviously be too pre-occupied at this stage," she told reporters in Kleinmond, a small holiday village about 100km (60 miles) east of Cape Town. "I promise you he is going to be too sore. He will go straight to hospital."

The device, made of latex and held firm by shafts of sharp barbs, can only be removed from the man through surgery which will alert hospital staff, and ultimately, the police, she said.

It also reduces the chances of a woman falling pregnant or contracting AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases from the attacker by acting in the same way as a female condom.

South Africa has more people with HIV/AIDS than any other country, with one in nine of its 45 million population infected.

Ehlers, who showed off a prototype on Wednesday, said women had tried it for comfort and it had been tested on a plastic male model but not yet on a live man. Production was planned to start next year.

But the "rapex" has raised fears amongst anti-rape activists that it could escalate violence against women.

"If a victim is wearing such a device it may enrage the attacker further and possibly result in more harm being caused," said Sam Waterhouse, advocacy coordinator for Rape Crisis.

Other critics say the condom is medieval and barbaric -- an accusation Ehlers says should be directed rather at the act of rape.

"This is not about vengeance ... but the deed, that is what I hate," she said.

************************************************************************************************************

DEAR FELLOW READERS,

I WOULD TOTALLY AGREE AND WILL SUPPORT THE IDEA OF MS. EHLERS. THIS WILL HELP TO PREVENT RAPE CASES ALTHOUGH SOME MAY NOT AGREE. IF WE NEVER TRY, WE WILL NEVER KNOW.

SO FAR THERE ISN'T ANY GUY BEING EXPERIMENTED WITH THIS OBJECT. GIRLS PUT IT ON (WILL BE OUT IN THE MARKET WORLDWIDE NEXT YEAR BY THE WAY ACCORDING TO CNN) AND GUYS TRY TO RAPE AND SEE IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE A LATEX CONDOM WITH ONLY PLASTIC SHARP OBJECT IN IT. I WATCH IT IN CNN ALREADY. HAVE YOU?

GIVE YOUR OPINIONS !!!!!!!!!!
