Free Food? Kluang Station in 1 Utama
My parents & I went to 1 Utama to buy my Hush Puppies' shoe for my internship which begins tomorrow morning till 23rd December 2005. Well, after trying two different pairs, I decided on my own choice of my shoe as it was much more comfortable than the one my dad chose. So, it was time for us to hunt for lunch. At first, I decided to eat in the Laksa Restaurant situated near Arena Food Court but my mum remembered me about the Kluang Station. We were thrilled with the amount of people walking in & out of the mini shop located in front of Bread Talk in LG Floor in the new wing of 1 Utama.
So, without hesitation, we just walked back to the place where we saw earlier when we first arrived. We wonder what is so nice of this place? All I knew before it was open was its "Roti Bakar". We sat down & a transvestite "girl" (guy to girl) appeared to be our waitress. After waited for 10 minutes like that, our Nasi Lemak & drinks arrived. What I recommend you to drink is their specialty call "Cham" (in Hokkien especially in Johorian Chinese, it means mix. It's a mixture of coffee and tea together. Uniquely divine drink, I can say).
30 minutes later. Other tables got their Roti Bakar even though they were late. My mum ordered 2 Toast Buns and 1 Wholemeal Toast Bun. She complained to this waitress & they pass messages here & there. All tak faham local Bahasa because they are foreigners (WTH? This is Malaysia, don't expect us to speak other languages or dialects which are alien to us). My dad soon erupted his volcano at his boss after long awaited for the BUNS to arrive. We thought he would speed up the service but came to our surprise he didn't even make for us the buns.
Owner: "I thought you were angry and walked out of the shop already".
Dad: "No, we waited for it. You should have told us that earlier. All the tables got theirs but not ours. (It was a very high tone voice & many neighbour tables are watching us. SO EMBARASSING). Just give me the bill & I want to pay now."
Owner: "Sir, it's ok. You don't have to pay. It's my fault. The kitchen got misunderstanding. Let me settle it for you. It's in the house."
Dad: "You think I can't pay is it?"
Owner: "No, not that but it is my fault. So, I will settle it." Don't worry about the bill. So sorry, sir.
Dad: "You think your bread & other food very nice meh? So pa pai have to wait for the buns."
Owner:
My dad told us that it might be our first & the last time coming to this coffee shop. We will not return to this shop again. But I am still curious of the buns in this Kluang Station coffeeshop. I might not come with my parents but maybe friends in the future to try out. What do you guys think?
I was kind of embarass with this situation as all tables stare at us walking out without paying the bill (but the owner settle fo us liao lah. No need to stare at us leh. Pai seh lah me). This is how I got the FREE FOOD TODAY.
HISTORY OF KLUANG STATION
What’s so special about this town from other town in Johor? Kluangis located in the middle of the state of Johor in Malaysia. It liesabout 110km north of Johor Bahru,east-southwest of Batu Pahat, west ofMersing and south of Segamat. Besides of the peacefulness and calmness rhythm in the city, I shall say that Kluang main attractions come from its coffee house located at Kluang railway station-really good coffee plus the shop’s specialty “Roti Bakar” reckoned by local folks or Toasted bread in English and half boiled eggs. As matter of fact, no visitors to Kluang should miss this local dish that is available forbreakfast between 7.00am and 12.00noon and for afternoon tea between 2.30pm and 6.00pm. Visitors that love outdoor activities such hiking or mount climbing might find Kluang is the best option to do that. Kluang offers agro-tourism in Padang Hijau, located at kilometres 18 of the Kluang - Mersing highway, near the junction that turns into the road heading to Gunung Berlumut which is situated at northeast of Kluang town. While for hikers can do climbing activities or exploring the rainforest in Gunung Berlumut. It is also popular with its waterfall that dwellers in Kluang would fill up this area whenever school holiday comes. Gunung Lambak also attracts local folks to come during weekends or in the evening. It is the perfect place for picnicking, swimming and mount-climbing since situated only 5km from the city centre. So, if you come to Johor, make sure you come to Kluang which I can grant you the best experience you will gain here and shall not be missed.
